Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka will be fit for their showdown with England on Saturday.

“Fortunately, the MRI showed no injury. It was a long season and that left its mark on Granit Xhaka,” Swiss FA media spokesman Adrian Arnold told reporters at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Switzerland will be delighted Xhaka is due to be fit for Saturday’s clash with England as he has been in fine form at Euro 2024.

The former Arsenal captain has been voted man of the match in two of Switzerland’s four matches, while he also shone in the win over Italy.

Switzerland have impressed in their run to the quarter-finals, which is in stark contrast to England.

Gareth Southgate’s side have stuttered in their four games and needed extra time to get past Slovakia in the last round.

“It’s not up to me to judge how the English have played so far,” Switzerland boss Murat Yakin is quoted as saying by Swiss newspaper Blick.

“I’m concentrating on us. Nevertheless, we know the English’s strengths and weaknesses. I’m trying to prepare our team for them as best I can.

“They (England) have great players. The group phase was not easy to play. Now they have arrived in the tournament and won a difficult game against Slovakia. Their individual class is obvious.”
