Lionesses midfielder Grace Clinton says she expects England to bounce back following a 2-1 defeat to France at Women’s Euro 2025.

The 22-year-old midfielder reflected on the performance in Zurich, emphasising the fact that England must improve if they are to salvage their Euros hopes.

“It was a tough game,” Clinton said. “We knew what France were good at, direct, powerful, attacking down the sides, getting loads of crosses in, and they’ve done that well so we obviously have to go back and see what we can do.

“But everyone knows we can improve individually and then come together collectively and improve as a team. We’re going to look back at the game and we’re going to get back together as a team and every game is a must win game now.”

Clinton, who came on in the 77th minute, revealed what head coach Sarina Wiegman instructed her to do.

“To try and get us a goal. We were 2-0 down and I think she sees me, obviously in that midfield role I can defend, but she also thinks I’m an attacking midfielder and she wants me to try and get on the ball and try to create things.

England must now turn their attention toward the Netherlands in what now becomes a must-win game. Clinton said she has “all the confidence in the world” that the Lionesses will get the job done.

“I’ve got those confidence on this team, obviously watching them off the bench, but the experience that we have within the team, in the last two years I’ve been here I’ve seen them not only come back from being another in position, but win so many games and I think experience’ve gotten the players that we’ve got, I’ve got all the confidence in the world,” Clinton admitted.
