There are a host of Manchester City players who are facing uncertain futures at the club. Two of those are John Stones and Kalvin Phillips. Stones has had an injury-plagued 24/25 season. He had similar issues throughout the 23/24 campaign. Kalvin Phillips has spent this season on loan at Ipswich Town. He also spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham. But Phillips doesn’t appear to have a future at Manchester City. Now, new reports indicate that Everton and Leeds United have an interest in signing Stones and Phillips. Perhaps going ‘home’ is the best move for both players.

Manchester City could sell John Stones and Kalvin Phillips this summer.

First, a report from Wayne Veysey for Football Insider indicates that Everton have an interest in signing John Stones this summer. Although Veysey reports that Everton have concerns over Stones’ availability due to his recent injury issues. Furthermore, Veysey reports that John Stones is set to leave Manchester City this summer.

Lucas Arnold has reported for TBR Football that Leeds United are considering whether or not they should move for Kalvin Phillips this summer. It was also included in Arnold’s report that Kalvin Phillips is interested in a move back to Leeds United. Lastly, Arnold reports that Manchester City are eager to sell Phillips this summer. But he has three years remaining on his current contract, so Leeds may instead pursue a loan move for the England international in the summer.

A move ‘home’ may be best for Stones and Phillips.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see John Stones and Kalvin Phillips leave Manchester City this summer. City are eager to trim their wage bill and selling both players would help with that goal.

But for the pair, perhaps a return to the clubs that they contributed so strongly to before signing for City may be the best move for both. It would allow them to contribute to club’s close to their hearts. It would allow John Stones to leave Manchester City after giving his all to the club. He could go back to Everton and help contribute to their rebuild of sorts. Kalvin Phillips is in a similar situation. His Manchester City career never took off. Perhaps a return to Leeds could kickstart his career. Familiar surroundings may bring out the best in Phillips after a tough time at the Etihad.

John Stones and Kalvin Phillips could be two players who leave City this summer. If they are both to leave the Etihad perhaps going ‘home’ would be best for both of them.
