Cristiano Giuntoli insists Napoli took an ‘unprecedented’ approach to signing experienced players, whereas Juventus are only just starting a ‘prospective’ project for the future.

It kicks off at the Allianz Juventus Stadium at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT).

Giuntoli won the Scudetto at Napoli and then left to take over at Juve, with Giovanni Manna as his assistant last season, but now Manna has moved to Napoli to effectively take the old job.

“Manna was very important for me, as he introduced me to the Juventus world and I thank him for that,” Giuntoli told DAZN.

Giuntoli on Juventus and Napoli Scudetto ambitions

Thiago Motta said in his press conference yesterday that Antonio Conte’s Napoli had to be considered Scudetto contenders looking at the players they brought in over the summer.

With that in mind, are Juve also therefore inevitable title challengers after signing so many top names?

“Honestly, if I reflect on the Napoli squad, it is very experienced, many of them played together for a long time and their transfer strategy was unprecedented, investing in players who are complete, are 27-28 years old,” mused Giuntoli.

“Our transfer strategy was more prospective. We transformed coach, the playing style and the structure of the team. We want to be competitive as soon as possible, it will not be easy, but we’ll give it our all.

“This is a young project, we are working one day at a time to figure out who we are. We know that we are Juventus and want to be protagonists, but we also know it is a journey that is just starting.”

Juventus have drawn their last two Serie A games, but got back on track in the Champions League midweek with a 3-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven in Turin.
