Girona open talks over deal for Athletic Club star | OneFootball

The board at Girona have kickstarted negotiations with their counterparts at La Liga rivals Athletic Club, over a potential summer transfer.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, citing SER, who point towards Hugo Rincón as being at the heart of these talks.

Defender Rincón, for his part, is fresh off a standout campaign in 2024/25.

After departing Athletic on loan for 2nd tier outfit Mirandés, the 22-year-old went on to establish himself as one of the first names on the latter’s team sheet.

All told, over the course of the season, Rincón racked up 44 appearances, chipping in with an impressive three goals and five assists along the way.

Such exploits are understood to have piqued the attentions of a whole host of clubs across the La Liga landscape.

And as alluded to above, this week, one such suitor have gone as far as to open talks with Athletic Club over the terms of a deal for Rincón.

As per a report from MD:

‘Girona have set their sights on Hugo Rincón to strengthen their right flank. According to SER, the Girona club is negotiating with Athletic Club for the full-back’s loan.’

It now remains to be seen if an agreement can ultimately be found to satisfy all parties.
