Barcelona are all set to take on Girona in the Catalan derby in La Liga on Sunday at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.
The Blaugrana will be in action in less than 72 hours after their previous game – a 3-0 win over Osasuna on Thursday night, which helped them take a three-point lead over Real Madrid in the league table.
Heading into the match, Girona are staring at a dilemma involving veteran midfielder Oriol Romeu, who is on loan at the club from Barcelona.
As reported on Friday night, Girona are considering bypassing the ‘fear clause’ Barcelona inserted in the loan agreement to play Romeu in tomorrow’s game by paying the Blaugrana €300,000.
However, speaking in an interview with Catalunya Radio (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Romeu claimed that he feels it is difficult that Girona will pay the fear clause amount allowing him to play against his parent club.

“Most likely, I won’t play, but I have a small hope that an agreement can be reached. Still, it will obviously be difficult,” said Romeu.
Romeu expressed his disappointment at the potential absence, emphasising how special it is to face Barcelona, saying:
“I don’t want to miss any game, but playing against Barça is one of those special moments in a player’s career. Competing against the best players in the world in beautiful stadiums is something you dream of.
“And even more so with the great moment we’re having as a team. I want to be on the pitch, get minutes, and finish the season well.”
Romeu has been a fundamental part of Michel’s squad, having played 24 matches this season. His absence would be a blow, especially with Girona also missing Donny van de Beek (suspended) and the injured Ivan Martin and Jhon Solis in midfield.
