According to reports from 1908nl, Gernot Trauner (32) was close to joining TSG Hoffenheim. The German club were initially keen on the Austrian centre-back. However, recent news from Kicker has shown that the transfer is now off.

Although a fan favourite at De Kuip since his signing from LASK Lins in 2021, the 15-time Austrian international was alleged to have been open to the move. Despite communicating this to Feyenoord, the negotiations stalled.

Kicker reported: “It is unclear why the plan failed. It would seem that the clubs could not agree on the terms of the transfer. Hoffenheim apparently only wanted to loan the 32-year-old, who is still under contract in Rotterdam until 2026 and is one of the top performers there, with an option to buy. After all, Ozan Kabak is also expected to return in the spring after his cruciate ligament tear.”

The German outlet also stated that another reason could be a change of thinking in Hoffenheim. There is reportedly a theory that the club bosses vetoed the move because they is now a growing faction of Austrians causing tensions within the club.

In the autumn, TSG installed Andreas Schicker as the new sports director, who a few weeks later also brought in coach Ilzer and his staff from Sturm Graz. In Hoffenheim, they met two fellow countrymen, Alexander Prass – who had also come to TSG from Graz in the summer – and Florian Grillitsch, who has since been dropped.
