Yesterday’s Premier League match involving Chelsea and Crystal Palace briefly distracted everyone from the real action of the transfer market, but we’re pleased to report that Ben Jacobs was back to his duties shortly after full time.
The well connected journalist followed up with more information about the current hot topic in Chelsea circles – Christopher Nkunku’s future.
Christopher Nkunku the subject of talks between Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
The attacking midfielder has been up for sale for a while without much interest, but has now finally got a team locked on. Bayern Munich, having been long linked with a sort of vague desire to sign him have now really moved into place to try and buy him, and Jacobs’ latest update claims that Chelsea and the German giants now have “talks ongoing” about his future.
Bayern are said to be “optimistic” about getting a deal done, and understand that Chelsea’s main concern in all this is that Nkunku moves full time and not on loan. “[Chelsea] want permanence to any exit”, as Jacobs puts it.
There’s no doubt that all this talk is very promising, but we’re not getting too excited just yet. There is a long way to go, Chelsea are keen to sell and Bayern want to buy, but that’s no guarantee they’ll find common ground on terms.
We would imagine this week will be fairly crucial in all this – Bayern will want to know if they’re getting their man, and Chelsea will want to know if they need to keep pushing him to other potential destinations. We expect the daily trickle of updates from the likes of Jacobs and Fabrizio Romano to continue as the deadline draws closer.
