Penders has enjoyed a brilliant season for the Smurfs, returning on loan to his boyhood club following a £17 million move to Chelsea. According to FotMob, the Genk number one has a 76.6% save percentage and has prevented 6.96 xG, including a saved penalty in Genk’s recent 1-0 defeat to Union St. Gilloise. However, The Athletic reports that Penders is likely to be sent back out on loan to another club next season, with RC Strasbourg the obvious move from a Chelsea standpoint.
HLN reports that his potential replacement could be 23-year-old Jonathan Fischer. The Danish keeper plays his football in Norway, for Eliteserien side Fredrikstad. He has kept three clean sheets in the team’s first five games of the season, including a man-of-the-match performance in a 3-0 win against Brann on the 29th of March.
Fischer has a transfer value of €2.5 million, yet Fredrikstad will be hoping to initiate a bidding war between several European clubs such as Lorient and FC Köln.
