Swansea City, two-time previous winners of the competition, are hoping to avenge their defeat to Cardiff City in last year’s final. This is The New Saints’ first ever appearance in the final after three consecutive semi-final defeats.

Ahead of the final, Swansea City manager Jamie Sherwood said: “I think we’re in a good place. The challenges have changed and the way that you manage has changed and we’ve had many challenges, but we’re in a good place. I’m confident that the goals we have set out to achieve, that we will achieve them, and it everything that we’re doing will be worthwhile in time to come.

“For me personally, this is going to be my first final with the girls, but for the girls it’s a return after they got to the final last year. They’ve got some bits they want to rewrite from last season, but we’re all looking forward to it.

“We’re in a good place, the squad is as healthy as it can be, and we’re excited to be going up against TNS, who have been one of the thorns in our side this year. We know the challenge TNS will pose, we know what they’re going to bring, and hopefully, we’ll be in a position where we can counteract it and maximise our potential.

“Swansea are renowned for winning silverware in this country. The club has a heritage and tradition of winning trophies. For the girls who have been here for a long time, it’s been difficult for them these last couple of seasons, and difficult for the club as a whole. It’s our job to go out and give everything in this cup final to make sure we come away with silverware. Hopefully, it’ll be the first piece of the jigsaw that we’re trying to put together here.”

Shauna Duffy, The New Saints head coach, said: “It’s been an unbelievable journey so far. There’s still a long way to go but for us as a group and as a staffing team, we’ve overcome so many hurdles along the way already. In terms of season goals, we’ve been able to cross off quite a few already and it’s still only February.

“We’re really confident at the moment and we’re riding this journey. But we know the challenges that are still to come, and we know they’re going to be tough, especially with the game on Sunday.

“It’s a really exciting time to be part of TNS. It’s not just exciting for us as staff and players, but it’s everyone involved; from those above us to the fans watching to the families and friends watching. It’s been an exciting journey and one where we want to keep pushing.

“We want to keep going and we want to try and make a name for ourselves. At the start of the season, it was all about making top four and anything beyond that would be a bonus. Now we’ve accomplished that, we don’t want to freeze, we want to push on.

“Sunday is going to be an incredibly hard game. Swansea are finding their groove now and they’ve gone through their own challenges just like we have. Whilst we have beaten them twice in the league, a cup final is a cup final, and anything can happen.

“They’ve got that final experience, and we haven’t, but on the flip side, we’ve beaten them twice in the league this season. In terms of a battle, we know it’s going to be tough, and we know what we’re coming up against in terms of the experience of Swansea. We know they’ll want revenge, so we have to be ready to manage that and make sure we go one further than them.”

The final is live on S4C and als0 Sgorio’s online platform.
