Gareth Bale's continued efforts to complete a purchase of hometown club Cardiff City present a no-brainer decision to owner Vincent Tan
As much as Vincent Tan might want to ignore the constant rumblings of a Gareth Bale-led takeover of Cardiff City, these talks simply isn't going to disappear overnight.
The Malaysian businessman bought the club in May 2010, but his 15-year stint in South Wales has been embroiled in controversy since the early days, after numerous decisions which left supporters furious.
The 73-year-old once tried to rebrand the club's historic primary colour of blue to red, which also included a new red badge, but was forced to change it back after this baffling decision rightly sparked outrage among fans.
More controversy followed over the next few years, and despite overseeing two Premier League promotions, the Cardiff owner has now more than outstayed his welcome, which has seen Bale offer him a way out.
Tan has held firm though, refusing the first bid from the consortium led by the hometown hero. However, a new "great" offer has been tabled, and this is surely now a simple decision for the Bluebirds' owner.
Despite a relatively modest 15 years on the pitch under the stewardship of the Malaysian up until now, Cardiff are in desperate need of a fresh start under a new ownership model, after years of controversy and disconnect between the supporters and the club's hierarchy.
The news of the proposed takeover by a consortium led by Welsh football legend Bale is a hugely exciting piece of news for Bluebirds fans, as the Cardiff-born man is now giving the current owners a way out of South Wales, and bringing the Tan era to an end.
To go from an owner who has caused so much controversy, such as Tan, to someone who clearly has the best interests of his hometown club at heart in Bale would galvanize the fanbase once again, after years of disconnect under the current regime.
After last season's disastrous Championship campaign which saw the club relegated to League One, now is clearly the time for the 73-year-old to sell up, and hand over the reins to someone who wants to help rebuild the club after relegation.
Recently, the former Galactico revealed in a recent interview with Front Office Sports that a fresh takeover bid has been sent to the Cardiff owner, after his first offer was rejected, and didn't even reach boardroom discussion.
Bale said last week: "We think it's a great offer, one that we're very happy with.
"We think it's very fair, if not more than fair, and it's something we hope the current owners will take serious.
"We'd love them to accept so we can take full control and get on with what we want to do and create Cardiff into a club that we know it can be."
In this most recent update, it's clear the 35-year-old and his consortium have a clear vision of what they want the Welsh club to become, and are keen to help the former Premier League outfit fulfill its potential on and off the pitch. Bale's latest claim does not suggest a purchase is imminent quite just yet, and a subsequent report from WalesOnline revealed that Cardiff are still awaiting relevant takeover criteria, such as a heads of terms, proof of funds and full clarity on who is behind the money, while the proposed offer - believed to be lower than £40 million - is said to fall some way short of the price it would take to complete a deal.
But fter the fallout of last season and the lack of transfer activity, now is clearly the best time for Tan to finally hand over the reins at the Cardiff City Stadium, as further struggles on the pitch next season could mean even more of a rift is formed between the fans and the owner.
With Bale now tabling offers to finally end the Malaysian's stint in South Wales, it seems like a no-brainer for Tan to take this way out of the club - should the Welshman's consortium submit relevant criteria, of course - and allow someone new to work towards rebuilding the Bluebirds from the ground up,
At 73 years old, the City owner should be open to a sale, which would allow him to take a backseat after 15 years of service to Cardiff, and let the club transition into an exciting new era, with a hometown hero at the helm.
