Galatasaray ready to sign Barcelona midfielder but only on one condition | OneFootball

Over the past few days, speculations surrounding the future of Ilkay Gundogan at FC Barcelona have spread like wildfire.

Everything started with the German international’s exclusion from the squad list to face Valencia over the weekend, with his omission sparking rumours that he could be on his way out.

Even though Hansi Flick insisted after the game that he expects the 33-year-old veteran to stay, question marks remain over Gundogan’s continuity.

In fact, there have been reports of the midfielder reaching out to his former club, Manchester City, to explore the possibility of a return.

Galatasaray want Gundogan

Now, SPORT reports that Turkish giants Galatasaray have revived their interest in Ilkay Gundogan as speculations over his future continue to grow.

Galatasaray have held an interest in the former Manchester City captain for some time now but things had cooled down as it appeared certain that the player would not leave Barcelona.

But recent developments have piqued their interest again and the Turkish heavyweights are ready to jump back in to try and sign the midfield veteran.

However, Galatasaray will only consider signing Gundogan on a certain condition which is that he arrives on a free transfer.

The Turkish bigwigs are willing to make an effort to try and match his wages at Barcelona but would only do so as long as he arrives for free.

Final decision up to Gundogan

According to the report, Gundogan has doubts about his future at Barcelona and is willing to consider offers, while the Blaugrana would open the door to him because they do not guarantee him a starting place.

Barça would be delighted to save the player’s salary but will not push him to leave and it will be up to the veteran himself to make the move.

Gundogan has previously stated that he would like to play for Galatasaray, although his intention was not to do it so soon. The former Man City man was keen to honour his contract with Barça and then consider his future, but things have moved too quickly.

The midfielder has offers from Qatar and Saudi Arabia on the table but Galatasaray are going to appeal to sentimental reasons to convince the player.

As far as Barcelona are concerned, their priority is to save his wages and not bring in a transfer fee, considering that he had joined for free last summer.

As such, they would not stand in the way of a free transfer as long as he forgives the remainder of his contract. Everything is now up to Gundogan and what he decides.
