Manchester United will be without Fridolina Rolfo for their Champions League qualifier against PSV next week.
Swedish star Rolfo joined the Red Devils this month, after terminating her contract with Barcelona earlier this summer.
However, United fans will have a wait on their hands to see Rolfo in action.
Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner said Fridolina Rolfo is a “few weeks away” from being ready for selection, ruling her out of next week’s Champions League qualifier with PSV.
With the Women’s Super League season getting underway in just over two weeks, it also raises doubts over whether she will be ready for their WSL opener against Leicester City on September 7th.
Skinner spoke to reporters after United’s 2-2 pre-season draw with Liverpool. He also provided updates on Grace Clinton, Melvine Malard, Leah Galton and Rachel Williams, who also missed the Liverpool game.
The United head coach, as per Goal, said: “Mel was a little bit of a hip [issue]. Hopefully [she] will be back for the PSV game.
“Leah, we’re just watching. [She] may be back for the PSV game, and I look at Fridolina, she’s just come in so we’re assessing her.
“She’d had a knock when she was going into the Euros, so we’re just making sure she’s healthy and she’s probably a few weeks away yet – but we’d rather treat her carefully as she’s going to be an excellent signing.
“Grace had a little niggle, so we’re just protecting her as well, and obviously Rach has been back on the field.”
Skinner, in his press conference, also stated that the draw with Liverpool was the ideal preparation for the Champions League clash with PSV.
Manchester United enter the Champions League at the second round of qualifying in a one-off tie with PSV on Wednesday, August 27th.
Should the Red Devils win, they will then face either Hammarby or Metalist Kharkiv three days later.
If United win the mini competition, they will qualify for the third round of qualifying, where ties will be held over two legs on September 11th and 18th.
Fridolina Rolfo had hoped to make her Champions League debut for Manchester United in her home country of Sweden.
It was an opportunity that she had described as a “very cool” way to make her debut.
She previously won the Champions League twice with Barcelona. In an interview, she said: “When you’ve won it once, you want to win it more times. That’s something that I want to continue working hard for, to get there with this team.
“It’s definitely something you want to reach every year if possible.”
