Fortaleza have moved decisively in the transfer market, making two major attacking additions in a bid to revitalise their campaign, with the arrivals of José Herrera and Adam Bareiro ranking among the most expensive deals in the club’s history, according to NE45.
The club confirmed the capture of Argentine winger Herrera from Argentinos Juniors for $2.4 million (approximately R$13 million), positioning him as Fortaleza’s second-highest outlay for a player after Moisés, who was signed from Cruz Azul for R$18.4 million. Alongside him, Paraguayan striker Bareiro joins from River Plate in a deal worth $1.8 million (around R$10 million), making him the fifth most costly signing the club has made to date.
This wave of investment places both Herrera and Bareiro in the club’s all-time top five signings. Herrera slots in just behind Moisés, while Bareiro’s fee overtakes that paid for right-back Eros Mancuso and trails only Moisés, Imanol Machuca (R$12.5 million from Unión), and Caio Alexandre (R$12 million from Vancouver Whitecaps). The spending underscores the club’s intent to strengthen options for manager Juan Pablo Vojvoda as they seek to arrest recent stumbles.
With these arrivals, Vojvoda now has nine recognised attackers at his disposal. On the flanks, Pikachu, Marinho, Allanzinho, Moisés, Breno Lopes, and Herrera provide depth and variety, while centre-forward roles are filled by Juan Martín Lucero, Deyverson, and Bareiro. The squad’s reshuffle also follows the departure of Dylan Borrero, who moved to América de Cali for $1.5 million (R$8.3 million).
Fortaleza’s aggressive transfer activity comes at a moment when the squad is in need of a spark, having encountered difficulties in recent weeks. Eliminated from the Copa do Nordeste at the quarter-final stage by Bahia, the club’s attacking output has come under scrutiny, making the signings of Herrera and Bareiro all the more significant as Vojvoda searches for renewed offensive cohesion and clinical edge.
The ambition behind these purchases is clear: to provide immediate support to a team eager for results during a transitional stretch of the season. Whether the investment translates into the consistent performances the fans expect remains to be seen, but Fortaleza’s willingness to break into their financial reserves signals their determination to compete at the upper ends of Brazilian football.
