Despite being second-best for over 70 minutes, Manchester United managed to escape Goodison Park with a point after mounting a stunning late comeback in their 2-2 draw with Everton on Saturday.

Diogo Dalot’s decision-making and a lack of conviction from his fellow defenders led to the hosts opening goal while the second was once again due to an initial mistake from Andre Onana.

The Cameroonian failed to parry the ball out of danger and with Harry Maguire static, Abdoulaye Doucoure jumped highest for Everton’s second of the day.

The 28-year-old’s most common mistakes involve him failing to gather the ball or push it out of harm’s way as seen from the goals conceded against Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur recently.

Onana’s mistakes on the rise

After a solid start to his sophomore campaign, the Cameroon international has started committing major errors since Ruben Amorim came onboard.

Looking back, it seems Erik ten Hag made a huge blunder to sanction a £47.2 million offer to sign the shot-stopper from Inter Milan in place of David de Gea.

Former Inter goalkeeper Alberto Fontana has criticised Onana in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport (via FcInterNews), claiming the current United No 1 prefers showboating with his feet and only pulls off saves for the camera and fluffs his lines when needed the most.

He also added that Inter did the right thing by moving on from the African ace and feels United are now paying the price for their major gamble.

Not Onana’s fan

“I couldn’t stand André Onana. A lot of smoke, a lot of somersaults. I played that role for many years and I know when you want to make something seem difficult that in reality is not.

“The classic ‘saves for the photographers’. I have always not been a fan of Onana and I can’t explain how he is at that level. £50 million for him? Come on, I wouldn’t take him for free.

“He is a goalkeeper who is unpopular with his teammates because he always seeks applause for himself. For me, it is truly inexplicable. So well done Inter for selling him. I don’t think Manchester United are enthusiastic about him.”

Amorim is clearly concerned, which explains the rise in minutes for backup keeper Altay Bayindir while the Red Devils are said to be keeping an eye on Gregor Kobel of Borussia Dortmund ahead of the summer window.
