Former Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri has no intention of inheriting Daniele De Rossi’s seat in the Roma dugout according to multiple sources in Italian football.

De Rossi replaced Jose Mourinho last January and earned himself a contract extension in June as the team displayed encouraging signs following his arrival. But after failing to register a win in the first four rounds of the new season, the Friedkins decided to wield the axe, putting a sudden end to the iconic captain’s managerial stint on September 18, 2024.

Naturally, several candidates have been linked with the Roma job over the past few hours. While Ivan Juric appears to be the ultimate favourite, some sources mentioned a sensational scenario that would see Sarri return to the Italian capital.

Sarri Wouldn’t Accept Roma Job Out of Respect for Lazio

The 65-year-old has been on the shelf since resigning from Lazio in March. However, Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà insists Sarri hasn’t been in contact with the Giallorossi. Instead, he’s waiting to understand developments related to the Milan bench, as Paulo Fonseca seems to be walking on thin ice.

Moreover, La Lazio Siamo Noi claims Sarri wouldn’t consider the Roma bench anyway out of respect for the Biancocelesti. The former Napoli, Chelsea and Juventus boss signed for Lazio in the summer of 2021, and while the team regressed during his final season at the club, he had led them to a memorable second-place Serie A finish in the previous campaign.
