A lot can be said about FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta, but one thing is undeniable: his deep admiration and love for the club. That said, some of his actions during his current tenure have left many fans frustrated and scratching their heads.

The taste has been sour when it comes to Laporta ever since the Lionel Messi saga, and the loss of the greatest player of all time remains a bitter memory. However, Laporta has carried on with his work since then, largely without making waves.

Since then, there was a summer when Barcelona made significant signings, including Jules Koundé, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski, all for hefty fees. This was followed by a summer where the club could only afford to sign Oriol Romeu from Girona. However, this summer, Barcelona managed to bring in Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor.

Having used Andreas Christensen’s injury to register the duo temporarily for La Liga, FC Barcelona are now caught in a fix as they have missed the deadline to register the duo on a permanent basis and La Liga has rejected their proposal despite the club having returned to the 1:1 rule.

Although Barcelona are still fighting this out in court, this incident has made many Socios turn against Laporta and his ad-hoc way of finding solutions to problems. Now, as per Mundo Deportivo, 2021 Presidential candidate, Jordi Farre plans on initiating a motion of no confidence against the incumbent President.

Farre, along with Victor Font, were Laporta’s biggest rivals back then, and both have continued to make their voices heard since the registration saga began. Now, as the team prepares for the Super Cup and Barcelona continues its legal battle, Farre could push forward with his motion.

Although Laporta might have lost some goodwill in recent weeks, he has still done a lot for the club and until at least the club’s ruling comes out, there might not be enough people willing to turn their backs on the charismatic President.

If there is one thing we can say about Laporta’s second stint at the club, whenever the club’s backs are against the wall, he has always managed to break the whole thing down. Let’s wait and see if he can manage to register Olmo and Pau Víctor in time for the second half of the season.
