Adria Altimira, currently playing as a right-back for Leganes, recently shared his thoughts on Nico Gonzalez, a player who holds a special place in Barcelona’s history.
Having spent more than half his life at Barça, from pre-benjamin all the way to Juvenil A, Altimira is deeply connected to the club.
Growing up in a football-loving family that has always been involved with Barça, it is clear that the club’s values run through his veins.
Now playing for Leganes on loan from Villarreal, Altimira gave an interview to SPORT before his team’s away match against Barcelona, touching on several topics, including his former youth teammate, Nico Gonzalez.
Reflecting on whether he believes Nico is ready to return to Barça and succeed, Altimira made it clear that Nico has what it takes. He believes that if Nico returns to Barcelona, the doors will be wide open for him.

According to Altimira, Nico has the talent and has gained valuable experience during his time abroad, which has helped him elevate his game.
“Nico’s situation depends on each one of us. He is a player that if he goes to Barça the doors will be open to him, he has a high level and in all these years away he has gained this level, this experience,” he said.
Nico, like Altimira, spent many years in Barcelona’s youth system. After making his senior debut for the club in 2021, he enjoyed a strong run during the 2021/22 season.
However, after a period of inconsistency, Nico was loaned to Valencia. Following his loan spell, he moved to Portugal, signing a five-year deal with FC Porto for a reported €8.5 million.
In the deal, Barcelona included a buy-back clause worth €30 million, which remains active until the summer of 2025. Additionally, a sell-on clause was inserted, ensuring Barcelona will receive 40% of any future transfer fee if Nico is sold again.
