The 61-year-old coach is expected to reveal his decision to resign due to personal reasons at a press conference scheduled for this Friday.

Replacements for Inter Miami

As is common in such situations, potential replacements are already being speculated. Interestingly, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, three names with strong connections to Barcelona have surfaced as candidates for the role: Xavi, Javier Mascherano, and Sylvinho.

These names have gained traction due to the influence of Xavier Asensi, the Catalan general manager at Inter Miami, who shares close ties with Barça.

Xavi, currently without a team, remains one of the most sought-after managerial names in football.

His impressive achievements, including leading Barcelona to a league title during challenging times, have earned him immense respect. Teams and even national sides regularly consider him when in search of a new coach.

Why would Xavi sign for Inter Miami?

Meanwhile, Inter Miami’s appeal to potential candidates is heightened by the prospect of competing in the 2025 Club World Cup.

The club has secured its spot in this prestigious competition as the host, following its success in the North American regular league.

Scheduled to take place from 15 June, the tournament will feature 32 teams, further solidifying Inter Miami’s ambitions on the global stage.

However, Xavi’s current plans appear to diverge from taking on a new role anytime soon. Reports indicate that he intends to take a sabbatical year, carefully evaluating his next move during the summer.

While his name was also linked to a potential position as the coach of Qatar’s national team, this seems unlikely as he prioritises staying involved in competitive European football.
