Incoming Liverpool boss Arne Slot faces a big decision this summer regarding one of the club's top young talents.

Portugal under-21 international Fabio Carvalho finds himself at something of a crossroads. The young attacker is set to return to Merseyside for pre-season training after a season out on loan split between Bundesliga side RB Leipzig and Hull City in the Championship.

While his time in Germany was underwhelming, his stint at Hull showcased his potential.

The 21-year-old bagged nine goals and two assists across just 20 appearances in the English second tier, raising hopes for his future at Liverpool.

Clubs from five countries interested in Fabio Carvalho

However, his form on Humberside has not gone unnoticed. Clubs from at least five countries are now reportedly expressing interest in the young midfielder, according to The Mail.

In the report, it says that Carvalho is “being courted by many in England and on the continent”, with a “growing list of suitors”.

Clubs from England, Germany, France, Spain and the Netherlands are reportedly among those circling, many of which have qualified for Europe next season.

Former club Fulham, along with newly promoted Southampton and Leicester City, are among the English clubs linked with Carvalho, dating back to when his loan at Leipzig was terminated in January.

Slot to give Carvalho 'a good look'

While The Mail reports that "no interest is advanced yet”, it suggests that new boss Slot is intending to give Carvalho "a good look" in pre-season before sanctioning any exit.

The player himself is believed to be “not desperate to leave” and is eager to “prove to the new coaching staff he deserves a place moving forward”.

During his one season under Jurgen Klopp's stewardship, prior to his loan, Carvalho struggled to find his footing. However, with the arrival of new manager Arne Slot, who favours a 4-2-3-1 formation featuring a central attacking midfielder, Carvalho may find himself better suited to the team's tactics.

Carvalho will be among the first to return for pre-season training as part of a small group of non-international players. With key senior attackers such as Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota in Euro 2024 action, and Alexis Mac Allister, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez featuring in the Copa America, this delay could provide Carvalho with a valuable opportunity to impress his new head coach.
