D’Amico was at the Gran Galà del Calcio ADICOSP (Italian Association of Sporting Directors and Collaborators) last night and he received the ‘Franco Janich’ award as the best Sporting Director of Serie A for 2023-24.

After receiving the award, he spoke on the stage and answered some questions from the host, including one about his future given what is circulating in the media. His comments were relayed by MilanNews.

What is it like working at Atalanta?

“We are always working. The club, the coach, the group and the historical core have been used to working for years with the ambition to grow and the desire to compete with the most important opponents.

“Sometimes we succeed, sometimes less so. From last season I want to remember three dates: May 15, the final lost against Juve, a great disappointment. On the 19th we went to Lecce and mathematically achieved qualification for the Champions League.

“The final in Dublin, I struggle to find an adjective to describe it. It is pleasant to see Atalanta: it was before, when I was in Verona, today it is even more so, experiencing it every day up close.”

In Bergamo, have they gotten used to it? It seems that qualifying for the Champions League is now a given…

“We still have three difficult matches. The year has been spectacular once again. It seems banal and obvious that we are always there fighting but it is not a given. Behind it there is a great job, a great coach, there is the ambition to obtain great results.”

You were close to the Scudetto for a while…

“It would have been nice for all of Italian football but Inter and Napoli are strong teams, clearly superior. We don’t get excited about victories and we don’t get depressed about defeats, we live everything as usual, with the desire to improve.”

What does the future hold?

“For now it’s Roma [the next game], we want to give our fans something to be happy about after the sadness of the last few days for the passing of one of them.”
