Ferran Torres highlights one aspect that sets Hansi Flick apart from Pep Guardiola | OneFootball

Although he remains a legend for FC Barcelona in every way, it has still been a long time since Pep Guardiola left the Blaugrana club, and several other individuals have taken the coaching seat at the Catalan club during this time.

As a result, very few players from the current Barcelona squad have experience of playing under the coach who remains one of the most innovative and successful coaches in the history of football.

One current Blaugrana player who enjoys this distinction is the forward Ferran Torres, who played under Guardiola at Manchester City before making the move to Catalonia.

In a recent interview, SPORT reports how the Spaniard compared his former coach with his current coach, Hansi Flick, and highlighted the main differences and similarities between them.

In this regard, Torres highlighted one aspect in which Flick is better:

“They are winners and know how to manage a top team. But Flick is more approachable, he cares about how you’re doing in every aspect. And something very important: he shows a lot of affection to those who play less, so they don’t lose motivation and are ready when their moment comes. This season has helped me confirm that I am a number 9.”

One instance in which the German coach showed this side of his personality was when he talked to Torres ahead of the Copa del Rey final.

Talking about his adaptation to the number 9 position, the forward again highlighted the role played by these two coaches:

“I never thought I could be a number 9 until I started with Pep [Guardiola]. And Hansi [Flick] also helped me a lot. I’m not a typical number 9 either. I was a winger all my life, and now I think it’s where I can make the most of my qualities.”

The Spaniard also believed it was harder for him to get a starting spot in the team than some other players:

“It could be. There are people who get talked about more and have the same numbers as me. But I’m not worried, I do my job. I’m calm because I give one hundred percent, and that shows on the pitch. I’m also aware that Barça is one of the best clubs in the world and there’s competition. You have to accept it, take the positives, and improve.”

There is no doubt that Ferran Torres has performed quite well as a number 9 this season, and this is one reason why Barcelona have not missed Robert Lewandowski a lot when he remained on the sidelines due to his injury. Hopefully, the Spaniard will continue to perform at the same level with the same humility he has shown up to now in the future as well.
