Turkish Super Lig giants Fenerbahce are reportedly in talks with Manchester City regarding a transfer for goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, according to Sky Germany.

The 32-year-old, who joined City in 2022 on a free transfer from Arminia Bielefeld, has primarily served as a back-up to Ederson during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

However, his situation in Manchester is set to change following recent developments in City’s goalkeeping department.

Man City have agreed a deal to re-sign James Trafford from Burnley for a reported £27 million.

While it is unclear if he would be handed a starting role immediately, Trafford’s return points to a likely reduction in first-team opportunities for Ortega.

With less than one year left on his City contract, Ortega is expected to be available at a bargain price for a goalkeeper of his quality.

The German is keen to play regularly at this stage of his career, and that seems highly unlikely at Man City despite some brief spells where he looked to have displaced Ederson in goal.

Fenerbahce’s interest in Ortega presents him with the opportunity to become the first-choice goalkeeper for a reputable European team.

However, they will have to fend off competition from several Premier League clubs, including newly promoted Burnley.
