As per Voetbal International, and the wider Dutch press, Francesco Farioli landed in Portugal late Thursday night to complete his move to FC Porto. The Italian coach was spotted by Portuguese media at Porto airport.
Arriving with his wife and two young children draped in club colours, Farioli was received by Porto general manager, Henrique Monteiro. Following further formalities, it is expected that the former Ajax coach will sign a two-year contract at the Estádio Dragão.
Farioli succeeds Martín Anselmi at Porto, who was sacked after the club’s elimination from the Club World Cup. The Argentine had only been in office for six months, after Vítor Bruno was sent packing at the end of December.
Under their new Italian boss, Porto are looking to compete in the Portuguese league next season after finishing third behind Sporting Portugal and Benfica last season. Ajax midfielder Kenneth Taylor and Croatian defender Dominik Prpic from Hajduk Split are reportedly the first reinforcements in the picture.
