Leeds United bolstered their defensive options with the signing of Belgian defender Sebastiaan Bornauw, who became the third new face through the door at Elland Road this summer.
The commanding central defender has put pen to paper on a four-year deal in West Yorkshire, joining from Bundesliga outfit VfL Wolfsburg.
Below are eight facts and figures about our latest recruit...
Sebastiaan links back up with former Wolfsburg teammate Lukas Nmecha. In their time together in Germany, the duo shared the pitch on 36 occasions. Two of those encounters came in the UEFA Champions League back in 2021/22.
Former United midfielder Josuha Guilavogui is another ex-teammate of Sebastiaan’s, playing alongside one another in 30 matches. Bornauw faced Ilia Gruev, Brenden Aaronson and Max Wöber during his time in Germany.
The defender’s three appearances in the Champions League for Wolfsburg saw the German side pick up draws with Lille and Sevilla, before losing out to the French team in the reverse fixture.
Bornauw enjoyed a spell in the academy set up of Moroccan top-flight club Wydad Casablanca as a youngster, before his family returned to his native Belgium.
The defender then came through the ranks with R.S.C. Anderlecht, making his professional debut in a 4-1 Pro League victory over K.V. Kortrijk in 2018. The last player to feature both Leeds and Anderlecht was forward Kemar Roofe.
Sebastiaan becomes the third Belgian to represent the Whites, alongside current attacker Largie Ramazani and former full-back Laurens De Bock.
Bornauw debuted for his national side aged 21 under then-boss Roberto Martínez, featuring in a friendly against the Ivory Coast. The 26-year-old has since earned three further caps, most recently receiving a call up to the squad in October 2024.
Last campaign, Sebastiaan scored two goals in the Bundesliga, including an equaliser away from home at then-reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen.
