Liverpool Closing in on Deal to Sign £85m Striker

The last few days have been dominated by Liverpool’s interest in Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Eintracht Frankfurt Hugo Ekitike and they look set to sign one of their targets soon.

A striker has been at the top of the priority list for Liverpool over recent weeks, after completing the signings of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez early in the window.

Darwin Nunez is still set to leave this summer, whilst Luis Diaz’s future remains uncertain amid interest from Bayern Munich and a couple of Saudi clubs.

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are close to finally getting their striker and are expected to beat Newcastle United to the signing of Ekitike.

“Understand Newcastle have now already left talks for Hugo Ekitike, deal considered off at this stage.”

“#NUFC now focus on different targets as since Monday bid got rejected, Liverpool entered race + there were no advances with the Magpies.”

“Liverpool are now advancing.”

This comes after an earlier report from Romano, suggesting Liverpool are also making significant progress in club to club talks with Eintracht Frankfurt, who are expected to be holding out for around £85million.

“Understand Liverpool are advancing today in club to club talks with Eintracht Frankfurt for Hugo Ekitike.”

“While Isak deal depends on final decision by Newcastle as they insist on not-for-sale stance…”

“Liverpool also progressing on both club and player side for Ekitike.”

It now looks unlikely Liverpool won’t be signing Alexander Isak this summer, but they are signing one of the most talented young forwards in the world, who fits Isak’s profile perfectly.

He’s far from the end product but Liverpool will be confident that they can turn him into one of Europe’s elite forwards after shining for Frankfurt last season.

The 23-year-old scored 22 goals in all competitons last season, as well as notching 12 assists.
