Liverpool are chasing a high-quality No9 ahead of the summer transfer window. We’ve seen several names linked - from Hugo Ekitike to Joao Pedro and Alexander Isak.

But Anfieldwatch revealed in March the name of the Reds’ dream centre forward. Julian Alvarez has been on the Reds’ radar since his days at River Plate.

Gonzalo Siegrist - a senior Liverpool scout - was pushing hard for his signing before Alvarez ultimately moved to Manchester City instead.

Last summer sporting director Richard Hughes and Julian met the player’s agent - Fernando Hidalgo - to make a pitch for his services.

Alvarez, 25, was out of reach for the Reds back then as City intended to bring Luis Diaz to the Etihad as part of the deal. No agreement could be reached and Alvarez joined Atletico Madrid instead.

But the Liverpool links won’t go away. Several media outlets in Spain and in the UK have capitalised on our story - suggesting Liverpool are STILL in the running for the Argentina World Cup winner.

It has been reported that Alvarez is slightly underwhelmed by life in Madrid thus far and if things don’t turn around then he will consider his future.

Arsenal are also among the contenders to bring the centre-forward back to the Premier League but Liverpool very much have the groundwork put in on this deal.

"It's true" says Romano

Alvarez would be an ideal fit for Arne Slot - scoring 29 goals and making seven assists in his first season at Atletico. And now Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that there IS Premier League interest in Alvarez ahead of this summer’s window opening.

We know Liverpool are well positioned to take advantage.

“Is Julian Alvarez a target for Liverpool and Arsenal as reports suggest?” the Italian transfer supremo was asked in his GIVEMESPORT newsletter.

“Atletico Madrid absolutely want to keep Julian. There's interest from Premier League, it's true for sure but Atléti insist on keeping him.”
