Serie A giants Inter Milan have established contact with the representatives of Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund regarding a summer transfer, according to the reliable Fabrizio Romano.
Hojlund endured an extremely difficult 2024/25 season that saw the club finish in 15th place in the Premier League table, having scored just 44 goals and with a -11 goal difference.
Hojlund finished the campaign with a lowly four top-flight goals. In 52 appearances across all competitions, the Dane netted 10 times.
He has failed to hit the heights expected of him since arriving at the club from Atalanta in a £72million deal in 2023 and already, there are murmurs that his days at Old Trafford are numbered.
The strongest interest in Hojlund appears to be coming from Serie A, with a report covered by The Peoples Person relaying that the forward is on Inter’s radar. He has also been linked to Juventus and Napoli.
Now, Romano has given a huge update on the 22-year-old’s situation, indicating that Inter have reached out to his entourage to express their interest and explore the possibility of getting a deal over the line.
Romano wrote on X, “Understand Inter have made contact with Rasmus Højlund’s camp in the recent days as talks started for the Danish striker.”
“As exclusively revealed two days ago, Højlund is one of the main options on Inter shortlist with Parma’s Bonny and more.”
Inter are reeling from one of the most humbling defeats in their history, a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final, where their ageing squad was completely outclassed.
It seems the Nerazzurri are embarking on ringing in a new era, consisting of younger players, and they see Hojlund as a key piece in this master plan.
Hojlund is already familiar with Serie A from his time at Atalanta and may welcome the opportunity to leave behind his struggles at United, opting for a fresh start in a more forgiving environment with less pressure and scrutiny. The Red Devils, on the other hand, might be open to offloading a player who appears to fall short of the required standard, using the funds from his sale to reinvest in strengthening other areas of the squad.
On Sunday, United announced the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and a new striker is thought to be next on their transfer agenda. Should Hojlund remain at the club, he would likely find himself firmly at the bottom of the pecking order.
