The Rams have signed Carlton Morris from Luton Town this summer.

Carlton Morris signed for Championship side Derby County this summer following a three-season spell at Luton Town.

The 29-year-old joined the Rams on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee, and will no doubt be hoping that he can recreate the kind of form he enjoyed during his debut season at Kenilworth Road during the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.

Morris scored 20 goals in the Championship for Luton over the course of the 2022/23 campaign, helping the Hatters win promotion to the Premier League via the play-off final at Wembley, before netting 11 times in the top flight the following season.

He scored eight times in the second tier last term as Luton suffered relegation to League One, and is now ready to begin the next chapter of his career at Pride Park.

Don Goodman backs Carlton Morris to thrive at Derby County

Sky Sports pundit, Don Goodman, spoke exclusively to Football League World about Morris' move to Derby, stating that he expects the striker to impress in his new environment.

Goodman believes that Derby will play in a similar way to Luton, which may suit Morris' game down to the ground and get the best out of the experienced frontman once again.

"The answer to the question is yes, I would expect Carlton Morris to rediscover his mojo," Goodman said.

"I do think that a fresh challenge was required for him. I think he is going to a club in Derby County that are going to play in a reasonably similar way to Luton Town.

"Both quite low down in terms of possession that they averaged last season - not many teams had less of the ball than either of those two. Both very high in terms of crosses that they get into the box. Both very high in the amount of set pieces that they tend to score.

"There are similarities between the way Derby play and the way Luton play, and therefore I would expect Carlton Morris, with all his experience, to be able to thrive and embrace this new challenge that he is embarking on."

Derby County will be hoping to build on last season

Derby finished 19th in the Championship at the end of last season, just one point clear of the relegation zone, having improved their form following the arrival of John Eustace as head coach in February.

They will be hoping to build on the final few months of the 2024/25 campaign next season, with Eustace no doubt aiming high as he prepares for his first full season in the dugout at Pride Park.

The 45-year-old has experience of being in and around the Championship play-off places from his stints in charge of Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers, so there is every chance that the Rams could enjoy a successful season under his leadership this time around.

Derby have added experience to their squad by bringing in the likes of Morris, Andreas Weimann and Danny Batth, while they have also been linked with a £5.1 million move for Charlotte FC striker Patrick Agyemang, which shows the level of ambition that the current owners have.

Having a proven goalscorer like Morris could prove to be vitally important for Derby this season, especially considering that only one team outside the top nine in the Championship conceded fewer goals than the Rams last term. If the forward can help his new club add more goals to go alongside a good defensive record, it could well be an exciting season.
