Don Goodman has told FLW his opinion on Sydie Peck's situation

Sheffield United's Sydie Peck is being scouted by Graham Potter's West Ham - who are targeting a major squad rebuild this summer.

The Hammers are focusing on younger players as they look to reduce their squad size from 26 to around 19-20 senior professionals.

As per The Guardian, Potter and head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay have compiled a list of targets, with Blades' Peck among a few midfielders being looked at - including Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney and Sunderland's Chris Rigg.

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has urged Sheffield United to retain Peck, arguing that the 20-year-old would benefit more from staying at Bramall Lane following the Blades' playoff final defeat to Sunderland.

Don Goodman's verdict on Sydie Peck's future

Speaking exclusively to FLW about the midfielder's situation, Goodman was full of praise for Peck's rise through the ranks at Sheffield United.

"To me, if he went to West Ham, he probably wouldn’t be getting the same amount of game time that he would if he stayed at Sheffield United", Goodman told FLW.

Goodman expressed concerns about the impact a move to West Ham could have on the youngster's development.

"So, I think for his development i’d think about maybe staying - if you were Sheffield United I should imagine you’re now beyond desperate to get back to the Premier League after what happened in the play-off final last season.

"So, with that in mind, you would imagine you’d want to keep all your best players - so interesting to see what happens there."

Sydie Peck's rise to become a Blades regular

The London-born midfielder left Arsenal's academy at 16 to join the Blades in 2021 - initially spending time on loan at Oldham Athletic in the National League.

After making just one Premier League appearance in Sheffield United's relegation season, Peck found himself making 47 appearances across all competitions this past season - 42 of those in the league.

Sheffield United are under no immediate pressure to sell with Peck contracted to the club until 2028 - so perhaps any offer from The Hammers has to be a very good one to even be considered.

As Goodman suggests, Sheffield United's ambitions to have another crack at automatics would definitely help Peck develop even further than he has already - so making a stay at Bramall Lane could be the most sensible option.
