Lee Hendrie has told FLW his verdict on Millwall's interest in Charlton Athletic star Thierry Small
Lee Hendrie has claimed Thierry Small would be a brilliant signing for Millwall this summer if he departs Charlton Athletic.
According to Football Insider, the Lions are interested in signing the defender but they face competition from rivals Preston North End.
Small is out of contract at the end of the campaign, meaning he will be available as a free agent.
The 20-year-old has starred in Nathan Jones’ side, even moving away from his natural left-back position to compete at right-winger, with the club chasing promotion to the Championship.
Hendrie has praised the work Alex Neil has done since taking over Millwall midway through this season, with the team in the mix for a play-off place.
He believes that Small could be an excellent addition to the side, and a great next step for the player in his career.
“I think Millwall are in such a good place this season, Alex Neil’s done absolutely immense pushing them into a real contender for a play-off,” Hendrie exclusively told Football League World.
“And they’ve shown that with the teams they’ve beat, they’ve got a style and a method of really upsetting sides, as we’ve seen time and time again.
“And then just bringing in added quality to that side, which I feel they’ve done over years, and people probably looked at that and they have that model where they certainly try to bring good players into the club, probably on a smaller budget than most.
“So, I think it would be a great signing for him.
“Obviously a young player, establishing himself and I think it’s a place that could really ignite even more so.
“It would be a brilliant signing for Millwall, I feel, and particularly it looks like he is going to leave the football club as he hasn’t signed a new contract.”
Small joined Charlton during the 2024 January transfer window, and has made more then 50 league appearances for the club in that time.
Small has performed well in League One, and has added some new elements to his game as a forward that will make him an appealing proposition for a number of clubs.
Neil has done well to get Millwall competing for a play-off place, with the London outfit heading in the right direction now.
Bringing in Small would be shrewd business, particularly due to the reasonable cost that will come with bringing him in with an expiring contract.
