The Blades are firmly in the mix for automatic promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt but have stuttered in recent times, suffering back-to-back 1-0 defeats to Oxford United and Millwall to prevent creating a gap to the likes of Leeds United and Burnley.

Chris Wilder’s men will have to return to the winning trail quickly, with the Yorkshire outfit competing with Leeds and Burnley for a top two spot.

Appearing like a missed opportunity, Sheffield United will now have to hope results go in their favour.

Sheffield United will be hoping they can make it consecutive wins when they host Cardiff City on Good Friday, before travelling to Turf Moor for a mammoth clash with Burnley on April 21st.

One player to play a significant role in getting Sheffield United towards the top end of the table is midfielder Vini Souza, who for large parts of the season has been a rock in the heart of the Blades midfield.

With interest mounting from his native land to secure his signature heading into next season, Don Goodman has advised Sheffield United over what their next moves should be regarding his situation.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, pundit Don Goodman admitted Sheffield United are getting the best days out of Vini Souza and has advised them to do all they can to keep him beyond this season.

Goodman said: “Vini Souza is a player that I like, but I'm also sure he's a player that Chris Wilder and Sheffield United fans like as well. I’m not sure on the length of his contract, but he's had a brilliant season.

“Obviously, if Sheffield United don't get promoted it will be down to Chris Wilder to decide whether any interested clubs are willing to pay the appropriate amount of money that he could spend to improve the team or whether he thinks they’d be better off keeping Vini Souza and having another go at getting promoted to the Premier League.

“Either way, it doesn't detract from the fact that I think he's a super player and a very good holding defensive midfielder. He’s very athletic and in the peak of his powers, so Sheffield United would be best advised to do everything in their power to make sure that he stays.”

Sheffield United should convince Vini Souza to remain at Bramall Lane

In the winter window, Vini Souza had been linked with a return to Brazil with Palmeiras, and it will undoubtedly be an attractive move to return to his homeland.

However, he has a fantastic opportunity to make a return to the Premier League with Sheffield United, and even if it doesn’t happen this season, the Blades would be firmly in the mix for a return at the second time of asking.

A player with immense talent and possessing all the attributes that makes him an imposing holding midfield player, Sheffield United should go all out to extend his deal and ensure that he realises his top-flight ambitions at Bramall Lane.
