Chelsea are well into the selling phase of their summer, with a number of players seemingly on the verge of confirming their move away from the club.

A lot of incoming business has already been done – but that doesn’t mean it’s game over just yet. There’s a fair bit of chatter that Eberechi Eze is a target for the Blues, backed up by new reports today.

CaughtOffside claim that sources have told them that Chelsea have been in contact with Eze’s representatives “in a bit to beat Arsenal to his signature.”

Chelsea considered the Crystal Palace star last summer but didn’t make a move in the end. With Noni Madueke about to leave, it seems that other options are now being considered.

“Chelsea recently held new talks with the player’s agent and confirmed their strong interest in him. Chelsea made it clear that, if the financial conditions are right, they will be ready to move forward with a concrete offer,” the source said.

Chelsea Eze links still fail to convince

As we said yesterday, we really do have our doubts about how serious Chelsea’s Eze interest is. For all that he is a quality player and one that we think would do well in Enzo Maresca’s team, his age just means he’s not a natural fit for our transfer model.

If enough of these rumours keep popping up we may be convinced otherwise, but for now this sounds like paper talk.

We’d still see 22 year old Morgan Rogers as better value at his maximum asking price of €90m than 27 year old Eze for his £68m release clause. The Villa player is not only younger, he also has a higher ceiling. €20m is a big gap, but if you’re convinced you’re getting a future world class player, it’s well worth the price bump.
