We write a lot of transfer stories here, and some are more believable than others. That’s especially true now that Chelsea have a strict policy in place.
The Blues want to sign players as young as possible and develop them in house, rather than spending £100m on a player from Benfica or Brighton and letting them benefit from the markup.
So while it’s hard to believe that £62m for 25 year old Matheus Cunha is on the cards, it’s a lot easier to believe that we’re chasing 16 year old wonderkids. That’s much more our MO these days.
Today CaughtOffside have a fresh rumour about a talent at Ajax. They report that we’re chasing Jorthy Mokio, the Belgian who started his career in his native country with Gent before heading north to Amsterdam. His exceptional youth performances are reportedly attracting attention from “top clubs”.

Sources apparently say that Man City and Arsenal have also had scouts watching the teenager, who has started playing in the first team this season. At centre back, left back and central midfield, he’s picked up 7 appearances for Ajax this season (with an impressive 5 in the Europa League) and is a regular for their youth team Jong Ajax.
The Blues have signed up a couple of players from South America of that age, and then had to wait a couple of years to get them in the team. In the case of Mokio, the Blues would be able to bring him over right away – although given he’s picking up important minutes developing in the Eredivisie right now, it might make more sense to leave him at Ajax on loan for a year at least.
It looks like this summer could be a very interesting one for the youngster.
