The Pilgrims have had a surprisingly poor start to life in League One under new manager Tom Cleverley, sitting 21st of 24 teams in the third tier and have won just one match from their opening six.

It's clear that Cleverley needs fresh bodies ahead of the 7pm transfer deadline, and he's set to add to his options in the final third.

The 26-year-old came through the ranks at Crewe Alexandra, and after appearing over 100 times for the Railwaymen, he signed for Blackpool in the summer of 2021 - initially on loan but in a deal that was made permanent in January 2022.

Championship football did not come regularly for Dale though at Bloomfield Road, appearing just 21 times between 2021 and 2024 for the Seasiders, and he spent the majority of 2022-23 at League One side Portsmouth on loan, scoring just twice in 50 outings for the south coast outfit.

Since February 2024, Dale has been with Oxford United, but after they secured promotion to the Championship last year, the wide player struggled for game-time under Des Buckingham and then Gary Rowett.

Loaned out to Wigan for the final few months of last season, Dale was able to get 18 matches under his belt for the Latics, but having returned to the Kassam Stadium over the summer, he has not been in a matchday squad since the start of the new campaign.

Plymouth are set to hand Dale a lifeline, where he will add to their wide options following a long-term injury for recent recruit Xavier Amaechi, who tore his hamstring in training for the Pilgrims.
