Galatasaray are determined to bring in a new goalkeeper ahead of the 2025/26 season and have long identified Manchester City star Ederson as their top target. However, financial hurdles are threatening to derail the move.
City’s high asking price, combined with the Brazilian’s wage demands, has complicated negotiations, despite the Manchester-based club recently signing James Trafford from Burnley, who could take over as Pep Guardiola’s first choice this season.
With the deal for Ederson becoming increasingly unlikely, sources have informed Sempre Barca that Galatasaray could shift their focus to a familiar face — Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena.
The 26-year-old, who impressed during a loan spell with the Turkish giants in the second half of the 2021/22 season, is now Barcelona’s fourth-choice under Hansi Flick.
According to our sources, Galatasaray are reportedly preparing an €8–10 million offer for the Spaniard.
However, they may face strong competition. Serie A side Como, led by Cesc Fabregas, have entered the race to sign Pena this summer. Como executives are expected to be in Barcelona for the Gamper match to accelerate talks.
Barcelona are said to be seeking a buy-back clause and a future sell-on percentage in any deal. However, the Catalans will only sanction Pena’s exit once either Eric Garcia or Wojciech Szczesny is officially registered in La Liga.
For Galatasaray, Pena would not merely be a fallback option if the Ederson move collapses — he is viewed as a potential long-term investment, valued for his leadership, composure, and ball-playing ability.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Pena. He has the talent to play for a club like Galatasaray, and all eyes will be on how the situation unfolds.
