Don Goodman has told FLW his verdict on David Ozoh making the temporary return to Derby County

Don Goodman believes that David Ozoh has the potential to be a great signing for Derby County if he can remain fit this season.

The Rams have confirmed the arrival of the 20-year-old on loan from Crystal Palace for the upcoming campaign.

He is the latest addition to John Eustace’s squad in what’s been a busy summer at Pride Park, with the midfielder coming back to the club after spending the previous campaign on loan from the Eagles as well.

However, injuries prevented him from featuring on a regular basis, with the youngster making 10 appearances in the Championship.

Don Goodman makes David Ozoh claim

Goodman has claimed that Ozoh has a lot more to show than he did last season, provided he can stay fit.

He is excited by this addition to Eustace’s side, highlighting his pre-season performances last season before injuries curtailed his efforts for the Rams.

“I think Derby, as we speak, have managed to pull off the signing of David Ozoh from Crystal Palace,” Goodman exclusively told Football League World.

“A player that they had last season, whose time was totally blighted by injuries.

“I remember pre-season he was shining and really standing out, and everybody was saying what a super signing Derby had on their hands, and obviously injuries really curtailed it for him.

“He’s just turned 20, he’s only played 25 first team competitive games for a combination of Crystal Palace and Derby, so the best is yet to come, there’s no doubt.

“If Derby County can get him fit, and keep him fit, then there’s no doubt he’s going to enhance their squad.”

Derby have also added the likes of Patrick Agyemang, Andreas Weimann, Danny Batth, Carlton Morris and Richard O’Donnell, all arriving on a permanent basis.

Along with Ozoh, the Rams have brought Owen Beck to Pride Park on loan from Liverpool.

Ozoh still has plenty of potential

Ozoh wasn’t able to fully show his ability last year due to injuries, but this season is a fresh start for him again.

Going back to Derby also makes a lot of sense, as that kind of continuity should help him settle into a good rhythm early into the campaign.

Eustace is also a proven coach, and could be the right man to help Ozoh’s development over the next 12 months.

This is a deal that has a lot of potential to work out well for all parties, provided he can stay fit and earn consistent minutes in the team.
