Don Goodman has warned Daryl Dike about Aune Heggebo's arrival at West Brom

Don Goodman believes that the arrival of Aune Heggebo at West Brom will add pressure to Daryl Dike’s position in the squad.

It was reported by Express & Star that the Norwegian has signed in a deal worth £4.7 million.

The 23-year-old has arrived from Brann, having scored seven goals from 13 appearances in the Eliteserien so far this season.

He is just the team’s second signing of the summer market, with Nat Phillips joining from Liverpool, following Ryan Mason’s appointment as manager.

Goodman believes that West Brom will only spend that much on a player if they are going to immediately play a role in the first team squad.

He’s warned Dike that he will need to prove his fitness and get back to his old level of performance, or else he will fall down the pecking order under Mason with Heggebo now in the squad.

“It’s a young 23-year-old striker from Norway, physical by all accounts, haven’t seen him play myself,” Goodman exclusively told Football League World.

“Hard-working, ambitious.

“If the reported £4.7 million price tag is to be believed, then I don’t think you’re going to pay that for somebody to come into the football club and not play them from the start.

“So, yes, there is pressure on Daryl Dike, number one to stay fit and number two to try and get somewhere near back to the levels that he’s had at Barnsley, which is what inspired West Brom to spend all that money to sign him in the first place.

“So, good for Ryan Mason to have striking options.”

West Brom will get their Championship season underway on 9 August with a home clash against Blackburn Rovers, with the Baggies looking to fight for promotion to the Premier League.

Heggebo signing is a challenge for Dike

Dike’s time at West Brom has been incredibly troubled with injuries, and it’s no surprise that the club have acted by bringing in a fresh face in response.

If the Baggies had been able to sign the player that scored nine goals in 19 appearances for Barnsley in the Championship then he easily could’ve led the line for a few years.

But the American has played just 40 times across three-and-a-half seasons, which has not been good enough.

The arrival of Heggebo will be a challenge for him to prove his fitness and earn his place in the side under Mason, which might be what he needs to get his career back on track.
