Joao Felix’s career has been on a downward spiral for years, and it only looks to be intensifying.
Buying him last summer was a foolish move by Chelsea, and has only led to more problems. He was loaned out to AC Milan in January, but didn’t do well enough there to tempt the Italian side into a permanent purchase.
He was then left out of our Club World Cup squad, as expected, signalling that there was no intention at Chelsea of bringing him back into the fold. His only chance of escape appeared to be Benfica, his former club, and the only team to express any real interest in bringing him in. But there’s been almost no word on that front since early June, and it certainly looks like a chance that is diminishing.

We can exclusively reveal that at least one other team has investigated the idea of bringing in Felix this summer. He has been offered to Galatasaray by his agents, who are spreading the net wide to find a team for next season.
Felix happened to spend his holidays in Istanbul recently, but we’re told this was just a coincidence. There was a casual meeting while he was there, but nothing formal has happened yet.
Galatasaray are now considering his demands and working out whether to approach Chelsea to find out what their desired terms of a deal would be.
Sadly this all sounds very vague and distant, but as the summer wears on both Chelsea and Felix are likely to feel increasingly pressured to lower their demands, and Turkish teams will always be an important potential outlet for unwanted players who still have a lot to offer.
We also wouldn’t rule out Benfica just yet – they could also be waiting for Chelsea to relent on their demands a little.
