Chelsea youngster Andrey Santos has had a brilliant year and a half on loan with our sister club Strasbourg, and while the expectation is that we will bring him back to the first team for next season, there’s growing interest from elsewhere.

Chelsea News sources tell us that “PSG and AS Monaco are among the clubs interested in signing Santos”, should Chelsea decide they’d rather cash in than strengthen the midfield of their first team.

Those Ligue 1 sides aren’t the only ones interested – we also hear that both “AC Milan and Inter Milan are also planning to sign the young Brazilian on loan,” and have sent their scouts to watch Santos in loan for Strasbourg.

A loan to one of those teams would take his value and his game to the next level, but would also seem mad given he’s ready to make an impact for Enzo Maresca right now.

Santos surely set for Chelsea stay after major loan impact

There is still no doubt in our minds that the correct move is to bring Santos back in the summer and integrate him into the first team squad. It’s so obvious that it’s a no-brainer. But these sporting directors have often made moves which were totally puzzling to us, and this could be an example.

Certainly the recent quotes from Santos which revealed he had yet to hear from anyone at the club about their plans for him were very worrying indeed.

Could they really be planning to flip him for a huge profit before he’s ever played for us? It would be the most stark example of player trading at the expense of first team success we’ve seen yet. We think it’s only a slim chance- but the fact there’s a chance at all isn’t good.
