Barnsley, Luton Town, Reading FC and Wycombe Wanderers are all interested in loaning Brighton's Kamari Doyle, Football League World understands
Barnsley, Luton Town, Reading FC and Wycombe Wanderers are all interested in completing a season-long loan deal for highly-rated Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Kamari Doyle, sources have exclusively revealed to Football League World.
The League One quartet are all bidding to bolster their squads ahead of their respective promotion bids in the 2025/26 third-tier campaign, with Doyle having been identified as a target for each after impressing on loan at Crawley Town last term.
Barnsley have been busy following the previous season's disappointing 12th-placed finish and head coach Conor Hourihane has completed four signings to date by bringing Reyes Cleary, Murphy Cooper, David McGoldrick and Nathanael Ogbeta to Oakwell.
Luton, meanwhile, are among the favourites to achieve promotion to the Championship after suffering consecutive relegations in the last two campaigns, and their summer transfer window has really kicked into gear as of late following last week's triple-capture of Nigel Longwijk, Hakeem Odoffin and ex-Bristol City marksman Nahki Wells.
Reading, though liberated from Dai Yongge's ownership and now able to operate freely in the transfer market without restriction under new owner Rob Couhig, have opted to primarily utilise loan deals thus far this summer, striking temporary agreements for Finley Burns, Matty Jacob and Brighton's Mark O'Mahony - and Doyle could be yet another player to head to the Select Car Leasing Stadium from the top-flight for the duration of next term, with their interest having been first called last week by Andy Naylor of the Athletic.
The Royals' local rivals, Wycombe, form the final part of the four-club race for Doyle's services, having already made nine signings in a bid to avenge last season's play-off semi-final defeat to Charlton Athletic by acquiring the likes of Taylor Allen, Bradley Fink, Ewan Henderson, Armando Quitirna and James Tilley.
Barnsley, Luton, Reading and Wycombe have all been active in this summer's transfer window, and it's no surprise to see each side targeting further additions in preparation for the upcoming season.
Sources close to FLW have now disclosed that all four sides are interested in striking a loan deal for Doyle, who appears poised to head out of Sussex once again in order to build upon a promising 2024/25 term away from the club.
For the time being, at least, it remains unclear exactly who is emerging as the front-runner to acquire his services.
Luton, of course, may hold an advantage as the most likely side to challenge for promotion, but Barnsley and Wycombe may be preparing respective pitches that they will hope can convince Brighton to determine that a move represents the best destination for Doyle's immediate development, while Reading have already brokered one loan deal with the Seagulls and will intend on further leveraging that positive working relationship.
The attacking midfielder joined Brighton in January 2024, where he made two first-team appearances while earning rave reviews with the club's renowned academy. Doyle is still awaiting his senior debut with the Seagulls but clocked up 47 appearances across the duration of last season on loan with both Exeter City and Crawley.
19-year-old Doyle, who has also represented England at various youth levels, had a mixed spell with the Grecians by scoring three goals from 20 League One matches before moving back closer to Brighton at Crawley, where his haul of seven strikes and four assists caught the eye - even if it wasn't quite enough to keep the Sussex-based outfit in League One.
Nonetheless, Doyle has done enough to put himself on the radar of a number of teams with promotion aspirations and he will be looking to build upon a hugely promising end to the season with Crawley.
Those who watched Doyle in action for Crawley during the latter stages of the previous term will not be shocked to see him emerge as a target for multiple higher-end League One sides, and it's the kind of move his performances have warranted.
A creative ball-carrying attacking midfielder with an eye for goal, Doyle's profile would translate well to a side looking to dominate possession and carve out frequent opportunities in the final third.
His potential has long been the subject of real excitement, having first come to attention at Southampton, and he showed signs of justifying the hype while on loan with Crawley.
Doyle still has some way to go, of course, and he will be hoping to further vindicate his potential by starring in the third-tier again next term and helping one of Barnsley, Luton, Reading or Wycombe realise their own ambitions of gaining promotion back to the Championship.
