As the end of the 2024/25 season draws near, focus is starting to shift onto the upcoming summer transfer window. It’s expected to be a busy window in the Premier League with Arsenal expected to play a lead role in the story of the summer.
Last summer saw the Gunners sign Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna and Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad for a combined price of around £70million. However, this upcoming window is expected to be even busier with a number of names already being linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium.
Talks have already took place with over the potential signing of Martin Zubimendi for a fee of £51million, whilst the Gunners are also weighing up a move to sign a centre-forward and another defender.
Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres has been heavily linked with a move, whilst Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak continues to be mentioned.
Arsenal legend Ray Parlour spoke exclusively to EPL Index and shared his admiration for the latter of those names…

When asked what position Arsenal should be prioritising this summer, Parlour was quick to respond, saying: “It has to be a striker in my opinion.”
“It has to be Alexander Isak and he would be my dream signing for Arsenal this summer, for sure.”
The 25-year-old has enjoyed another sensational season for Newcastle United, scoring 27 goals across all competitions whilst notching six assists too.
However, the potential price tag will be a huge stumbling block for any clubs wanting to secure the services of the Swedish striker with Newcastle set to hold out for around £120million this summer.

Parlour believes that Isak would be a ‘perfect’ fit for Mikel Arteta’s side, who have lacked a clinical goalscorer from central areas this season. Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus have both had some runs of decent form but have also struggled massively with injuries.
“He fits into the Arsenal way of playing, he runs the channels, he scores all types of goals, he has proven Premier League experience and is a classy player,” said Parlour.
“He looks well grounded, speaks well and I believe Mikel Arteta would relish coaching him.”
“With Saka and Martinelli out wide, Isak would be perfect to fit as the number 9, meaning Havertz can drop deeper and be a goal threat too.”
Arsenal aren’t alone in their interest in Isak, with the likes of Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain also registering their interest in the striker. However, a move this summer looks unlikely especially with Newcastle United on the verge of securing UEFA Champions League football next season.
