AC Milan currently leads the race for Manchester United target Youssouf Fofana. The Italian side have concrete interest in the 25-year-old from Monaco, and at this moment in time, they are leading Manchester United in their pursuit.
United have had previous contact for the player as recently as last month, but AttackingFootball sources understand that AC Milan are showing more interest in the player right now, with their admiration for the player being described as more than concrete.

Manchester United have recently been linked to Manuel Ugarte from PSG, with talks taking place between the two clubs over the 22-year-old Uruguayan. Ugarte is one of several names discussed between the clubs during a recent meeting, but there has been no formal bid from the English club as of yet.
Fofana was viewed as a great opportunity for United this summer due to his cheap price tag, with the French midfielder, currently at the EUROS with France, anticipated to leave Monaco for around £25m. The Red’s are set to lose Casemiro this summer, with Sofyan Amrabat’s loan deal from Fiorentina unlikely to be made permanent, so two midfielders are expected to be coming into the club. Fofana was viewed as one of the most likely targets, but AC Milan are in the lead right now.
United could still make their interest more concrete in the coming weeks, and the race is by no means over for the player. Fofana would be open to joining Manchester United, with the player said to view the club as legendary.
Milan have the player on a list alongside Mats Wieffer from Feyenoord. Fofana was one of the standout performers in the French League last season, but has yet to make a clear impact for the French side during the ongoing tournament.
The player’s future will become more clear once the tournament ends in regards to his final destination, with remaining at Monaco already ruled out.
