Paulo Di Canio has praised Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi for his tactical alterations in Tuesday’s 4-0 triumph against Red Star Belgrade.

During a Sky Sport Italia broadcast, as reported by FCInterNews, Di Canio admitted Inzaghi was ‘right in the end’ for reshuffling the deck on UEFA Champions League Matchday 2.

Inzaghi’s decision to omit Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram from his starting line-up for a must-win clash against Red Star caught some Inter fans by surprise.

However, the Scudetto-winning manager’s choice was on the money.

Backup strikers Mehdi Taremi and Marko Arnautovic exceeded expectations, shredding the visitors’ backline into pieces.

Indeed, the former was particularly stunning. It’s fair to say Taremi almost single-handedly sent the Serbian SuperLiga champions packing.

His back-to-back assists midway through the second half had put the game to bed.

Even though Martinez scored and drew a penalty, the 32-year-old duly earned a flattering ‘Man of the Match’ award.

In addition to posting a crucial European win, Inzaghi was able to rest his headline performers. As such, it was a win-win decision.

Fresh legs will likely be of utmost significance when Torino touch down at Giuseppe Meaza on Saturday.

Di Canio said he suspected Inzaghi could tweak his usual formation before the game.

“Before the game, you could think of an exaggerated turnover of Inzaghi, but in the end he was right,” he said.

What ensued was a rout of the Serbian team.

As it turned out, it proved another day in the office for the Scudetto holders.

“Inter did a normal practice, even if for an hour the match was in the balance,” Di Canio concluded.

There’s no time for complacency in the Inter camp after the win.

Inzaghi’s men must play catch-up with AC Milan, Juventus, and Napoli in Serie A.
