Following a nightmare two-year spell with Roma, Como striker Andrea Belotti opened up about his decision to exit the Italian capital and join the newly promoted side in late June.

The Biancoblù agreed to pay the Giallorossi nearly €5 million to acquire the veteran on a permanent deal—subsequently leaving Roma with a final tally of 10 goals and 4 assists in 68 appearances.

“I’m here with a ton of enthusiasm,” began Belotti during an extended interview on Sky Sport.

“Como expressed strong interest in me starting towards the end of last season, and their persistence was one of the key factors that led me to want to come here.”

Adding, “That feeling of being courted and valued is important for a player because it means the club believes in you.”

Belotti was just one of the headline-grabbing transfer acquisitions made by Como this summer—a list that also includes the likes of former Real Madrid defender Rapahel Varane.

“It’s a pretty unique feeling to be around guys like Varane and [coach, Cesc] Fabregas. When you see a club that is keen on improving and growing, you understand they’re displaying their commitment thru actions, not words.”

“Fabregas is only recently retired, and we all know what he achieved on the field, which is an advantage for us. He made football history and can only teach us from his experience.”

Adding, “The club is strong enough to attract players like Varane, Alberto Moreno, and [Pepe] Reina, which will only make the team better.”

The 30 year-old also outlined his expectations for himself and the team this season—the club’s first in Serie A in 21 years.

“Our mentality will be to play every match to win. The coach always tries to instill this mindset in us,” he explained.

“We might seem like a team in development, and it might appear we could be more relaxed, but we want to do the opposite andchallenge everyone with our mentality and our belief.

Concluding, “It will be tough, but we want to give each opponent a tough time.”
