Henrikh Mkhitaryan says that Inter Milan “weren’t playing against a weak or poor team” as they lost to Juventus this evening.

The Armenian spoke to InterTV after the 1-0 Serie A loss, via FCInterNews. He looked back on the Nerazzurri’s second half slump.

Inter Milan fell to their third defeat of the season in Serie A this evening.

And it was a particularly bitter loss for the Nerazzurri.

The Derby d’Italia is always a heated fixture. The rivalry between Inter and Juventus is an historic one with no love lost between both teams, no matter what’s at stake.

But beyond that there is the fact that Inter had the chance to go top of the table this evening.

A win would have taken the Nerazzurri a point clear of Napoli after the league leaders’ slip-up against Lazio yesterday.

And even a draw would have at least allowed Inter to stay within a point of the Partenopei.

However, Inter lost, with Francisco Conceicao’s second goal enough to give the hosts all three points.

Mkhitaryan On Inter Loss To Juventus: “We Weren’t Playing Vs A Weak Or Poor Team”

After the match, Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan said that “We came here to win, we didn’t take advantage of our chances, and we paid for it.”

“We should have been more clinical in front of goal. Maybe we needed to be cooler.”

“But unfortunately, that’s how football is,” the 36-year-old lamented. “When you don’t score, you lose matches.”

Mkhitaryan said that “obviously [Juventus] have changed” in the January transfer window.

“They have some new players. But we shouldn’t talk about them.”

“We need to be more focused on our own game, and on our matches,” the former Manchester United and Arsenal midfielder went on. “Because when we do that we know what it takes to win matches.”

Mkhitaryan then said that “Today we had an excellent first half.”

“In the second half, we gave up a bit,” he admitted. “But it’s not like we were playing against a weak or poor team.”

“We were playing against Juve. We created a lot of problems for them in the first half.”

“In the second half we conceded. But that’s football.”

Mkitaryan then said that “We shouldn’t have lost focus in the move where they scored.”
