Everton’s loanee goalkeeper Emily Ramsey has withdrawn from the England squad with an ankle injury.

The 22-year-old received a first competitive senior call-up for the 2023 Arnold Clark Cup. Ramsey was missing from the squad which beat Italy 2-1 at The Coventry Building Society Arena in their second tournament match this afternoon and it has been revealed that she will play no further part in the current international window.

England head coach Sarina Wiegman has advised that Ramsey sustained an ankle injury whilst on the training pitch yesterday and she has now returned to Everton for treatment. The injury is not thought to be serious and she could be fit for Everton’s next match against Aston Villa at Walton Hall Park in a fortnight’s time.

Ramsey was a member of the England squad for the 4-0 victory over Korea Republic in Milton Keynes on Thursday evening. The youngster was one of three unused substitute goalkeepers, Ellie Roebuck and Sandy MacIver being the others.

Wiegman has played two different goalkeepers in her side’s two Arnold Clark Cup matches to date with Mary Earps and Roebuck having pulled on the jersey. Youngster Ramsey many have been in-line to be considered for selection in the third match, but that option is no longer available.

England will complete the tournament with three goalkeepers, there will be no changes to the squad.
