Everton Push for Douglas Luiz Deal as Premier League Rivals Circle

Midfield rebuild gains momentum at Everton

Everton’s intent to reshape their midfield has taken a firm step forward, with TeamTalk reporting that the club has submitted an official bid for Douglas Luiz. The proposed deal is understood to be a loan with an obligation to buy, with Juventus hoping to extract a total package worth around €35 million (£30.2 million).

Luiz, a standout performer during his time at Aston Villa, has endured a frustrating spell at Juventus. Despite a high-profile €49 million move last summer, he made just 27 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A club, including only three starts in both Serie A and the Champions League. Juventus, now open to a sale, appear ready to move the Brazilian midfielder on, and Luiz himself is “keen on a return to the Premier League.”

Everton act swiftly but face stiff competition

David Moyes is reportedly eager to add Premier League experience and midfield composure to his side, and Luiz ticks both boxes. According to TeamTalk, “Everton have now submitted a loan bid with an obligation to buy for Luiz.” The club’s early action may prove crucial in what is shaping up to be a competitive market.

However, Everton are not alone. West Ham United and Aston Villa are also preparing offers, adding pressure to the Merseyside club to move decisively. Villa’s interest is particularly compelling given Luiz’s previous stint at the club, where he built his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most effective midfielders.

Juventus weigh bids as valuation increases

TeamTalk note that Juventus originally hoped to sell Luiz for around €25 million (£21.6 million), but with multiple Premier League clubs interested, that figure has shifted. “Juventus now hope to reach a total package of around €35m,” TeamTalk report, believing growing English interest may help maximise their return.

Crucially, Juventus are said to be “flexible to consider a paid loan with a mandatory purchase clause,” which aligns with Everton’s offer. Whether the financial structure or the player’s personal preference decides the destination remains to be seen.

Player preference and project clarity now key

While Luiz is expected to leave Turin this summer, the key question now is which project he will choose. “The next step will depend on which club makes the most convincing offer and which project the Brazilian chooses for the next chapter of his career,” TeamTalk note. For Everton, clarity of vision and a sense of momentum may be as important as matching the financial terms.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

There will be a fair bit of cautious optimism around this one for Everton supporters. A move for Douglas Luiz would represent a statement of intent from the club, especially with David Moyes looking to solidify the spine of the side.

This is not just a reactive deal. Luiz is 27, experienced, technically gifted, and Premier League proven. He knows the pace, the physicality and, perhaps most importantly, the pressure. If Juventus are ready to do business on loan terms with an obligation, this is a smart route for Everton to bring in quality without overextending financially.

There’s also the timing. While other clubs are still preparing bids, Everton have acted. That says a lot about how the new regime is trying to operate. Fast, focused and forward-looking. Yes, Villa and West Ham are lurking, but this deal feels like it has more than a puncher’s chance of going through.

Whether Luiz picks Everton depends on the project. But if the club can sell the vision, there is every reason to believe this could be one of the most impactful signings of the summer.
