Officials at Everton have now been gaining additional information surrounding the requirements for a deal to take Manchester City’s Jack Grealish on loan.
Grealish has two years left on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium as doubts remain over the 29-year-old’s prospects under Pep Guardiola after the £100 million signing from 2021 made just seven Premier League starts in the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.
Manchester City are understood to be willing to sell Grealish permanently this summer as they look to trim the wage bill after the acquisition of six new signings in the current transfer window, which closes on September 1.
City are open to sanctioning a season-long loan for Grealish but would want his wages entirely covered, with Everton interested to bringing the former Aston Villa captain to Merseyside as the winger looks to salvage his international career.
Grealish has been snubbed by Thomas Tuchel in his opening two squads as Three Lions boss, with Tuchel making it abundantly clear that Grealish needs to be playing regularly at club level to stake a claim in England’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.
It is worth noting that Grealish remains a popular figure in the Manchester City dressing room and behind the scenes at the Etihad Stadium, having played a starring role in the Blues’ historic 2022-23 treble-winning campaign.
After justifying the financial outlay made to secure his services from Aston Villa in arguably just one of his four seasons at City, there is a general acceptance that now is the time for all parties to part ways, with Grealish understood to have made peace with the fact that his career at the Etihad Stadium is effectively over.
According to the information of The Times’ Paul Joyce, Everton have now strengthened interest in Manchester City’s Jack Grealish – who has been told he is surplus to requirements at the Etihad Stadium.
Further conversations are said to have now taken place between the clubs as Everton officials look to establish parameters for an agreement, with initial inquiries revealing that City are seeking to recoup as much of Grealish’s £300,000-a-week wage as possible.
Despite the potential for that leading to a financial commitment of at least £12 million, it is stated that Everton have not been put off and talks have continued in the belief the player is willing to move.
Additional reporting from Manchester City insider ‘Tolmie’s Hairdoo‘ on X, Everton are prepared to pay £250,000-a-week towards Jack Grealish’s Etihad Stadium wages as part of a 12-month loan agreement.
While there remains a £50,000-a-week shortfall towards the player’s complete City salary, there is said to be ‘common ground’ and the player is likely to be given permission to speak to the Merseyside club in the next few days.
