The final Merseyside Derby ever to be played at Goodison Park was undertaken within a historical stadium full of cheer and excitement.
The lineup and subsequent ratings are listed below.
The world-class Brazilian stopper was unable to get down quick enough to avert the opening goal. Produced a good stop later in the half.
After the restart, the former Roma keeper was alert to punch a dangerous cross clear as the pressure mounted on his goal. Was very good and commanding in a very difficult setting. Could do nothing for the last gasp goal.
The Irish superstar started the game with gusto as he travelled up and down the flank with intent. His defending and tenacity were on point in a good first-half showing.
In the second half, the young fullback was a little overzealous in his challengers and was substituted before a second yellow card arrived.
Subbed – 60 mins
The Scotland international skipper was steady and committed in a solid first half as he looked to control in zone in a frenetic period.
After the halftime break, the veteran fullback was relieved as the game needed more energy.
Subbed – 70 mins
The France international defender was caught for the opening goal as Beto bent his run to rush away and score the opening goal. The former RB Leipzig man was able to assert his dominance after that point as he adjusted to the physical battle.
Following the break, the towering centre-back was needed immediately to block a shot on goal with his huge frame. Was very good at handling Beto in the second half.
The captain and leader of this team was a little rattled early on as Beto looked to use his physical prowess against the legendary defender. The skipper was authoritative and alert from the outset as he too adjusted to the pressure.
In the second period of the game, the former Celtic man was alert and disciplined against a team designed to cause trouble.
The Duch midfielder was a little peripheral in the first half as he struggled to get a hold of the game. With some neat touches and movement, his best moments came with the ball in the opening 45 minutes.
After the break, the former Ajax prodigy was unable to impose his game before leaving the pitch.
Subbed – 60 mins
The Hungarian skipper attempted to use his pace and power in the first half, however, he struggled to make a real impact until a good shot on goal late in the half.
In the second 45 minutes, the former RB Leipzig star was better and showed more endeavour and running.
The Argentina World Cup winner was the controlling midfield who was able to head the equaliser with a superb glancing header. His ability to play in tight spaces was needed in the opening stages as he looked to keep possession of the ball.
In the second half of this game, the former Brighton star was combative and showed great character to keep fighting against a powerful opponent.
The Columbian attacker started as the centre forward and looked to make runs and create opportunities through good movement. Nearly got to a rebound later in the half.
After the restart, the former Porto man was vital in creating the second goal from wide. The 28-year-old showed good footwork and enjoyed a solid second-half showing.
Subbed – 86 mins
The Dutch forward started on the left of an attacking front three and was on the outside of most things as chaos engulfed Goodison Park throughout the first half.
After the halftime break, the former PSV man was unable to impact before leaving the pitch.
Subbed – 70 mins
The Egyptian King was able to deliver a perfect cross for the equaliser as he looked to create from wide in the early stages. Without too much time to make openings for himself or his teammates, much of the first half was lost to the chaos.
After the intermission, the record-breaking goalscorer was able to score his team’s second goal with a superb strike from a narrow-angle. A shot late on in the game was an outstanding attempt which was saved from hitting the top corner. Had a brilliant run late in the game which should have drawn a foul.

The Manager;
The Dutch manager picked his strongest available eleven and chose to adopt a false nine ahead of an out-and-out striker.
The second-half substitutions were all very effective and well-timed.
